Follow-up to mediated discussion on "Making Career Your Passion." Jay Krutulis and Erica Sutton are two HHC alumni with unique life paths to share how they have been able to combine career and passion after completing school.
After studying biology, neuroscience, and law, and then spending 16+ years as a practicing attorney, Jay Krutulis found himself with a powerful urge to create - to make some tangible, artisanal product. And nothing could fit the bill better than wine. Combining biology (through the botanical aspects of grape growing to the microbiology of fermentation to the organic chemistry of wine aging and maturation), neuroscience (all the sensory richness inherent in the enjoyment of wine), and all of the general knowledge gained in practicing corporate law applicable to owning and operating a small business, this winery pursuit has proven to put a smile on his face on a daily basis.
After completing her undergraduate degree, Erica Sutton entered the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She completed her residency in general surgery at the University of Maryland followed by a fellowship in minimally invasive surgery also at the University of Maryland. Dr. Sutton moved to the University of Louisville in 2011 and served in many leadership roles related to educating the next generation of doctors and surgeons. In 2013, she founded Surgery on Sunday Louisville, Inc. a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide free surgery and outpatient surgical procedures to people who are uninsured or underinsured. She recently accepted a position in Atlanta Georgia and will be the Associate Dean of Academic Programs and Affiliations at Morehouse School of Medicine. RSVP REQUIRED.
While at IU, these alumni will also participate in a Mediated Discussion will be held in the Whittenberger Auditorium of the Indiana Memorial Union (IMU) on March 5th from 4:00 to 5:30 pm, with a reception following the talk. The reception will take place from 5:30 to 6:30 pm in the IMU University Club.
