The HHC Experience

Learning, leading, & life-long friends

Being a part of Hutton Honors College is a unique opportunity to develop leadership skills, make friends, and experience IU Bloomington in a whole new way. HHC challenges students with fascinating courses taught by some of IU's most engaging instructors, extracurricular programs aligned to students wide-ranging interests, and many ways to make friends--including living with other Honors students in our Honors Residential Communities.

Here at Hutton, we are more than ready to begin our new “old” life of offering courses in our classrooms, gathering for events, and meeting in the Great Room for HHC workshops. Everyone at IU has done a wonderful job in the last year and half: students, staff, and faculty, we all worked together toward maintaining our pedagogical offerings, extracurricular activities and high standards. I am proud of IU and of the Hutton community for all the efforts to overcome the difficulties created by the pandemic.

"I immediately knew the entire floor would bond really well, there was always something to do, doors to rooms were always open--spending late nights together, playing frisbee, eating meals... everyone was eager to meet each other."

Role models & leadership opportunities

Emma Gerrety

Senior, Psychology major

"My path through college has largely centered on my involvement in the Hutton Honors College and the opportunities it has provided. Now a senior with a much clearer picture of my future and with several professional school applications submitted, I have Hutton to thank for giving me the vision to set my goals and the role models, experiences, and mentors to help me get there."

Hutton offers opportunities for me to expand my academic career through the honors courses offered that are outside of my own field of study. I am able to engage with like-minded instructors and peers and feel a sense of belonging within a smaller community.

Senior Jennifer Nguyen

Hutton students are genuinely and deeply curious about the world—they really want to learn for the sake of learning— and in my experience, Hutton students have always been game for joining me on new scholarly adventures. I love the small size of Hutton’s classes, which allows for us to create a community and really get to know and learn about each other. Our class discussions are consistently high-level, and I am constantly impressed by the caliber of students that Hutton attracts. We really push each other to think in new and complex ways.
