A Special Message for Parents

As the parents of a prospective Indiana University student who has been admitted to the Hutton Honors College, you have many reasons to be proud.  While these are uncertain times, we hope to ease some of your concerns, and have assembled several resources that we hope will be useful to you. We look forward to meeting you in person as soon as it is safe to do so.

Freshman Parent Orientation Video

The Assistant Dean, Lynn Cochran, has made a pre-recorded message for all prospective parents in lieu of the parent talk she normally gives during New Student Orientation. The recording is about 20 minutes long and covers many important aspects of your student’s experience at Hutton, including the types of courses offered, advising, Honors Residential Communities, grants, extracurricular opportunities, and honors student organizations.

A PowerPoint version of this video can be found here.  Additional information is located here.

Live Parent Q&A Sessions

Starting in mid-June, two live Q&A sessions will be offered each week. Parents of prospective freshmen will receive links to these talks from the Hutton Honors College beginning in early June.

After you have viewed the video, please sign up for one of the Q&A sessions offered by our Associate Director of Advising, Khalfan Mohammed, and Dean Cochran. These Q&A sessions are being made available so you can ask questions about the registration process, or any questions that occur to you while watching the video. They are being offered from 11:00-12:00 am, Eastern Time, on the following dates: June 16 & 18, June 23 & 25, June 30 & July 2, July 7 & 9, July 14 & 16, July 21 & 23, July 28 & 30, or August 11. (Note: there will be no Q&A sessions the week of August 3-7.)

Please sign up for a Q&A session the day before (or the day) your student registers for class if possible. Avoid attending a Q&A after your student registers because the information late might be less helpful for your family. You will need to register for one of the meetings at the Zoom link here.

When you join the Zoom meeting of your choice, please keep your audio and video off, and ask questions via the chat room. When your question is chosen, you will be invited to ask it with both audio and video on. Please share a computer with others in your family who may want to join in, that way we can accommodate more people in the session.

We look forward to meeting you!
