If you submit your completed application to IU Bloomington by November 1, you will automatically be considered for the Hutton Honors College (HHC). You will be directly admitted to the HHC if your GPA*, class rank, and test scores* meet the requirements in the chart below. If you apply to IU Bloomington by November 1 but do not meet the HHC test score criteria, you can submit updated test scores. These updated scores must be received by IU no later than January 15.
How to qualify for direct admission

3.85 (or top 10% class rank) ... and a | ≥ 34 ... or | ≥ 1500 |
*PLEASE NOTE: We default to the highest GPA on the transcript, and we superscore the ACT and SAT.
In the absence of test scores, you will still be considered for the HHC. Students who apply without test scores will be evaluated on grades earned in academic coursework; performance in honors, International Baccalaureate and Advanced Placement courses; your IU-specific essay; extracurricular activities; and other achievements. If you are unsure as to whether or not you should apply test-score-optional, please visit IU’s test-optional page.
If you do not qualify for direct admission to the Hutton Honors College and/or if you have missed the November 1 deadline, you may petition for admission.
Scholarship opportunities
Incoming freshmen who apply to IU Bloomington by November 1 and qualify for direct admission to the Hutton Honors College are eligible to apply for the Hutton Honors College Scholarship. How to join by petition
If you are not directly admitted to the Hutton Honors College but would like to petition for admission, please submit the following documents:
- A brief personal statement. Be sure to include your full name, address and IU student ID.
- A letter of recommendation from a high school faculty member who has taught you in an academic course.
- High school transcript.

Please mail all items together. Letters of recommendation and transcripts should be in envelopes sealed by school representatives.

Petitions must be postmarked no later than February 15. Petitions will not be reviewed until after February 15. All decisions will be finalized no later than March 1.
Students who are admitted via petition are not eligible for Hutton Honors College scholarships.
Experience a day as a Hutton Honors Student
When you are admitted to the Hutton Honors College, you are invited to spend a day virtually with a Hutton student to get an intimate look into life at IU. Get a look into online classes, tour a residence hall virtually, and learn what it is like to be a college student at Indiana University.
Virtual visits will run from 1/25/2021 to 4/16/2021. Please make your request for a visit at least one week in advance. If you have questions about the program contact hhcvisit@indiana.edu.
