Prospective Freshmen

How to qualify for direct admission

Criteria for direct admission

  • completed application to IU Bloomington by November 1
  • cumulative high-school GPA of 4.0 or higher (this includes weighted GPAs)
  • composite SAT score of 1500+ (or the equivalent on the ACT)

Students who meet the criteria for direct admission to the Hutton Honors College (HHC) will be automatically admitted and notified of their admission in their Indiana University Admissions Packet.

If you complete your IU Bloomington application by November 1 but do not include test scores or do not meet the above criteria, you will be considered for direct admission to the HHC on a case-by-case basis without having to submit a petition. Evaluators consider all factors of an application, with greatest emphasis placed on grades earned in academic courses; performance in honors, dual-credit, International Baccalaureate, and Advanced Placement courses; extracurricular activities; other achievements. If your application is successful, you will be notified by email (to your IU email account) no later than February 1.

If you are not admitted to the Hutton Honors College by February 1 and/or if you missed the November 1 deadline, you may petition for admission.

Scholarship opportunities

Incoming freshmen who apply to IU Bloomington by November 1 and qualify for direct admission to the Hutton Honors College are eligible to apply for the Hutton Honors College Scholarship. Continuing students may be eligible to apply for additional scholarship opportunities. For more information, see Scholarships and Grants & Awards.
