Prospective Freshmen

How to qualify for direct admission

If you submit your completed application to IU Bloomington by November 1, you will automatically be considered for the Hutton Honors College (HHC). You will be directly admitted to the HHC if your GPA*, class rank, and test scores* meet the requirements in the chart below. If you apply to IU Bloomington by November 1 but do not meet the HHC test score criteria, you can submit updated test scores. These updated scores must be received by IU no later than January 15.

3.90 (or top 7.5% class rank) ... and a≥ 32 ... or≥ 1430
3.85 (or top 10% class rank) ... and a≥ 34 ... or≥ 1500

*PLEASE NOTE: We default to the highest GPA on the transcript, and we superscore the ACT and SAT.

In the absence of test scores, you will still be considered for the HHC. Students who apply without test scores will be evaluated on grades earned in academic coursework; performance in honors, International Baccalaureate and Advanced Placement courses; your IU-specific essay; extracurricular activities; and other achievements. If you are unsure as to whether or not you should apply test-score-optional, please visit IU’s test-optional page.

If you do not qualify for direct admission to the Hutton Honors College and/or if you have missed the November 1 deadline, you may petition for admission.
