How to Apply

Admissions for students entering IUB in August 2025

Students who are successful in the Hutton Honors College are excited about ideas, eager to try new things, and keenly motivated for broad, interdisciplinary study. Our students come from all across campus--be they Accounting majors or Political Science specialists, future physicians or aspiring opera performers, they are united by their love of study and their enthusiasm for learning new things.

The Hutton Honors College is highly selective, accepting less than 10% of each entering class.

Admission to the Hutton Hutton Honors College (HHC) is by application only.

Domestic students The regular application deadline for domestic students seeking Fall 2025 admission has now passed. Successful applicants will be notified of their admission to the Hutton Honors College starting in late February.

If you missed the regular application deadline and are a domestic student who has been accepted to IU Bloomington, you may still petition for admission to the Hutton Honors College. The petition will be open from 1:00 a.m. (E.S.T.) February 1 to 1:00 a.m. (E.S.T.) April 1. Once the petition is open, you will find it in your IU Portal. You will be notified of the outcome of your petition no later than April 11th.

International Students (including US citizens living abroad) must submit a completed IU Bloomington application by February 1, 2025 and their HHC application by 11:59 p.m. on March 1, 2025.

Scholarship opportunities

A small number of Hutton Honors College students are named Hutton Honors Scholars and receive a renewable scholarship. Hutton Honors Scholars are required to complete the Hutton Honors Notation and encouraged to live in a Honors Residential Community. HHC Scholars have priority for honors seminars, Notation gateway courses, and advising appointments.

Hutton Honors Scholar awards are limited in number and extremely selective. They are awarded on the basis of academic achievements and potential for success in a highly interdisciplinary curriculum as demonstrated through admission application materials.

The Hutton Honors College also awards need-based financial aid to qualified students. Continuing students may be eligible to apply for additional scholarship opportunities. For more information, see Scholarships and Grants & Awards.

Evaluators consider all factors of an application, with greatest emphasis placed on grades earned in academic courses; performance in honors, dual-credit, International Baccalaureate, and Advanced Placement courses; extracurricular activities; other achievements.

Experience a day as a Hutton Honors Student

When you are admitted to the Hutton Honors College, you are invited to spend a day with a Hutton student to get an intimate look into life at IU. Get a look into classes, tour a residence hall, and learn what it is like to be a college student at Indiana University.

Please make your request for a visit at least two weeks in advance. If you have questions about the program contact hhcvisit@iu.edu
